Just Playin' Around

I sign my driftwood art wth a wood burning tool, and as I got ready to sign some pieces, I had a thought.... As usual the thought turned into weird reality. And as I got going it turned into full blown playin' around, like a seagull with a French fry.

I discovered that the simplicity of the monochromatic-ness of the wood and the burning fit my style. That was a fun discovery!

I also figured out that I enjoyed it more than painting. It was more simple, displaying the uniqueness of the wood and matching it up with favorite phrases. You can tell it was fun because I used the more fun sayings.

Finally, while looking at fonts and lettering I learned something I should have already known. Leave it to Pinterest... I found the calligraphy instruction that helps you determine which lines in lettering would be thick and which thin. Duh - upstrokes are thin and downstrokes are thick!! I could kick myself for skimming over instructions and not paying close enough attention to have found this before!

Then the real test came... Ok wait, that makes it sound too serious. I was still playing but then I took it to a Bible phrase. I suppose that may seem serious, but no, it's more like treasuring a flower, rolling the stem between your fingers as you revel in the beauty of it. A fun day. Learning. Discovering. Enjoying. Creating. Playing.
